Extra Credit Assignment

Extra Credit Assignment.

Huck Finn is a thirteen-year-old boy. Why does Twain use a child as the center of consciousness in this book?

Creative Writing Prompt

You have the weekend to turn in this assignment. Find a picture that inspires you and post it in the comments to this entry. Throughout the week, you will choose a photo, not your own, that are in the comments. You will write a short story about that photo. The short story is not about describing the picture, but rather what inspires you about it.

For example:

The forest was lush and green. Thick moss grew on the bark of the tall trees and the sun peeked through the curtain of branches and leaves above.

The cat's vivid green eyes reminded me of a forest rather than the cat itself. It is fine to use the cat to tell a story as well. The point of the excercise is to free up creative energy.

Small Guidelines:

  • Length must be 500 words.

  • Writing should be appropiate for school.

Pictures are due Sunday night before 12 AM. Creative writing responses are due by Friday before 12 AM. Have fun!

Novel Reflection Question

Choose a character from a novel or play of recognized literary merit and write an essay in which you (a) briefly describe the standards of the fictional society in which the character exists and (b) show how the character is affected by and responds to those standards. In your essay do not merely summarize the plot.

It is recommended to use the books we have read in class, but you are free to use outside reading for this assignment.
